Computer Virus
Nearly every TR member has probably encountered a computer virus. The most important things to know are that when you get one, how are you going to get rid of it, and how to not let it trick you. I have learned a bit over the past 48 hours. I went on a website, and all of the sudden it froze up, and apparently a fake windows antivirus came up saying I have 27 trojan viruses. It popped up every time I opened up something, and so the only thing to do was to pull up my menu with ctrl alt dlt, and terminate the process, eradicating it until I opened something new up. It was all a trap, to try to get me to buy some antivirus online, which would probably just give me a program that would truly screw up my computer. Luckily, I knew I had nothing called windows antivirus, and kept from clicking it or messing with it much. I currently use norton antivirus, which somehow was not getting rid of the virus. Luckily, this morning when I logged on, it popped up and told me a trojan virus posing as av.exe has been eradicated. I am free at last.
So, basically, this thread is to say if you have had any viruses in the past, and how you have dealt with them. Or, if you haven't dealt with them, and they are still plaguing/plagued your computer, so other people can try to help you.

Re: Computer Virus
I use AVG, but I infected my dad's Toughbook with Windows XP, and it's still currently infected. It was about a year ago, and apparently only my profile was infected. Anyway, whoever creates these viruses obviously has no life...

Re: Computer Virus
Hmm, I didn't know how to get rid of it, thats why I relied on norton antivirus to pull through for me :) I was getting worried after it being up there for so long, and norton apparently taking its time to get rid of it.
Why do you think people even create them? Imo, it has to be between 3 things.
1. Companies trying to take down each other to take their business.
2. Random computer nerds who have nothing better to do.
3. The type of person who just likes to cause other people problems, because they enjoy that type of thing.
Sticky, try to go on another account, look at the processes, and see if their is one on your account that is active, and appears to be the virus. You "may" be able to destroy it. Otherwise, I don't know how to help you.

Re: Computer Virus
Actually, officially the three types are:
Peepers: People who do it for fun, they hack/virus just to see if they can do it, then go through your files out of boredom but dont really damge your comp.
Smashers: Like peepers but more malicious, these guys do it to DESTROY your files, because they like it.
Scammers: These guys hack/virus for one simple reason, to use whatever they find to make money!
All three are illeagal though...
