It's a pretty solid theory though. You can tell especially in Pokemon Red. Because in Red, Mewtwo is really the only legendary unless you know the trick to incite Mew encounters with Abra. So of course, a way the developers wanted to help players trying to catch him out, they added the Master Ball. And then, after that, it became a sort of meme. Every game, you'd get your starter, and beat gyms and fight evil, and then, you'd be given a Master Ball to reward you and encourage you to catch that last Pokemon, the strongest in the game. Of course no other Legendaries are primarily purple, but the idea is still the same.

I used fly, not Abra's teleport.
I believe in Ruby/Sapphire you find it in the team Magma/Aqua base lying around.
In Diamond/Pearl you get it from Team Galactic because they don't need it.
In Black/White you get it from the professor for beating the eighth gym.

Imo it takes one of few challenges in the game out to use it. Catching the roaming legendaries is much tougher without an instant capture.

The only acceptable time to use a Master Ball is because you can't be ***ed to chase a roaming Poke'mon. However, if it's standing still, don't be a pussy.

It took me like 80 ultra balls to catch Arcticuno. Like, no. I don't even like you just get in the box.

I remember the original RBY games, the legendary birds didn't have a low capture rate, rather, they DODGED the god damn balls. It was annoying as hell. Now, yeah, masterballs are mainly used for roamings, the main problem is that while you CAN use a pokemon with arena trap, or mean look. Problem is, you need a synchronise pokemon with the right nature first.

^I think you meant to say for people who like to skip their battles because it's easier that way. Using a master ball should give you no sense of accomplishment, because you are admitting that you are not good enough to do something.

I use my master ball only when I run out of all others.

You get TWO master balls in Black/White 2 btw.

So you'd rather use a spoon to dig a hole even though you have a shovel because otherwise it would give you no sense of accomplishment?

Both a spoon and a shovel require work to dig the hole. Using a masterball is like calling in a bulldozer and sitting on your ass as they dig the hole for free and then give you all the dirt and the billions of dollars they found in it

Exactly. It's not like it's tough physical labor or that you have to remain focused for a long time or anything like that... It's a turn based game that you can multitask.

I hope you're ready for more:

You have no father, and your best friend is an orphan.

Children are journeying all around the world.

Your mother accepts you as the man on the house, making your own decisions.

An old man warns you of dangers around the corner.

Most people you meet are children or gym leaders.

Most adult men are either very old, or have a job related to the military or organized crime.

Hospitals and gyms are everywhere, but no forms of entertainment such as movie theaters.

LT. Surge: “Hey kid! What do you think your doing here? You wont live long in combat! That’s for sure! I tell you what kid, electric Pokémon saved me during the war!”

You now realize that there was a war in Kanto.

Your father died, and your rival lost his parents.

You are amongst the first generation of people to live in peace at post-war time.

In the original Pokémon Red/Blue, when you encounter your rival in Lavender Town, he asks whether or not you know what it’s like to have one of your Pokémon die. At this point in the game, he no longer has his Raticate that he used in previous battles.Your rival battle before this took place aboard the S.S. Anne. Your rival’s Raticate sustained serious injuries from the battle…but, because crowding and confusion on the luxury liner, he was unable to make it to a Pokémon Center in time and the Raticate passed away. The real reason your rival is in Lavender Town to begin with is to lay his deceased friend to rest.

Despite all of this, your rival never outwardly tells you that you’re responsible for the death of his Pokémon. He hides his grief and instead channels that energy into the motivation he needed to continue his quest to become Indigo League Champion. The death of his Raticate effectively destroys your rival’s impish, childhood innocence. Although he tells himself that he doesn’t hold you responsible, he subconsciously holds a great deal of resentment towards you which further fuels his ambitions.

Tearfully swearing upon his Raticate’s grave to not fail in what he set out to do, he trains hard in hopes of becoming better than you…defeating you…and to eventually make it to the Pokémon League. Mere moments after he became Indigo League champion, he was defeated…by you. Although he fulfilled his promise to his fallen Pokémon, it was only for a painfully brief instant.

In the end, your rival is scolded by his grandfather while you receive the professor’s praise. During the course of the game, you steal your rival’s innocence, crush his dreams, and ultimately snatch away the love of his own grandfather. Oh, and by the way, your rival doesn’t have any parents. He’s an orphan.
