Manga, mang. Empty Manga, mang.

Oh look what an obvious violation of forum post etiquette, to talk of manga in an anime subforum. I demand my own subforum! But until then, I'll just make do with this one thread!

So obviously only scrubs watch solely anime when it comes to their exotic Japan-originating entertainment. This is the thread where we make fun of 'em, gloat in our own superiority and ignore the fact that we're all losers for watching something else except actually good entertainment like Michael Bay movies or the hottest TV-soap opera, airing at a prime-time hour in YOUR TV!

Let's get started, eh?

Onepunch-Man is a good old superhero story. After saving some random kid from a supervillain, Saitama swore to become a superhero, and so he did! He goes on to save the world a bunch of times, with one punch, because he's that cool. The series does not take itself seriously at all, so for mindless stupidity, check it out.

Franken Fran is a good old gore-filled "horror" manga. Or whatever you want to call it. Fran's a good meaning doctor of superb skill, with the mandate to preserve human life followed to the dot! Even when it means she needs to assemble all the campers, blown to bits by the landmines hidden in the woods around her estate, to one horrible mass of organs, people and horror. It's an episodic manga for the most part, with some arcs here and there and so on, and it's finished as well so check it out if you're into some humor gore series and whatever just check it out to see what it's about I just don't know.

Pygyuru is a good old fashioned 4-koma series. It makes no sense. The main character is a save-for-the-face featureless 4-limbed maid thing, who has friends such as a snow-woman, a squid, and a normal highschool girl who never has the chance to say their name. I think. As a gag-manga, there's no plot to speak of. Just jokes.

Houkago Play is a 4-koma with a story, with everything kids these days want! Videogames, romance, and titillating scenarios! Lucky for you, there's not that much of a plot beyond what I just described so your little mind won't be all confused by dozens of plot-twists.

My Balls. An ancient demoness overlord is sealed in a guy's testicle by the forces of heaven, something about an ancient deal that for a few thousand years humanity would get to keep Earth, after which the demons could get it back. The plot? The guy has to not ejaculate for a whole month, or else the demoness overlord is released and the end of humanity will begin as the demons are given free reign and entry to the world! Sexy hijinks follow as denizens of Hell try and free their leader.

That's enough for now.

i-i read manga..

Tonari no Seki-Kun
wow I used bold now i feel as cool as leb! anyways this is just a simple comedy manga. each chapter has the coolest guy on earth, seki, do something ridiculous during class and not get caught, and the girl who sits beside him wants his D or something. fun read.

It’s Not My Fault That I’m Not Popular!
about this girl with absolutely no friends in her highschool trying to become popular but shes disgusting and always screws up. Very sad and cringe-worthy manga, makes you feel good about yourself

K-on!
cute girls playing cute music in its original manga form. Very easy read, all the panels are lined up almost like comic strips. The story goes into more detail than the manga did, and it also continues once they're out of highschool into a new story which still doesn't really have a plot. cute read, very fun. sometimes a lil bit lewd

Yotsuba!
one of my favorite mangas, i'm collecting all the volumes in real life right now. its a simple comedy about a young girl who moved to a new city and gets into weird situations all the time. super funny, amazing read.

Tekkon Kinkreet
two orphans (black & white) who live on the street must cheat, steal, mug and fight to survive their daily lives. white is very innocent and doesnt truly understand how far his brother is going to keep him safe. big war with police and yakuza and new origanizations moving in, all with the intent to change the city black & white grew up in. gets very weird but cool read, also has a movie.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica
deconstruction of the magical girl genre, turning it into something very dark and gruesome. awesome read, very interesting, and the manga's artstyle is pretty good, especially compared to the anime. madoka is a girl in middle school who meets kyuubey, a magical animal who can grant her one wish in return for becoming a magical girl.

Just to add on on what Tim said about PMMM is that the manga is actually better than the anime, kinda. Better ending, well extended one and more... blood? Plus, even the side stories and such are twisted... They all seem to start off just the same as the anime/manga... Then after abit... BAM, you'll wish you were a reality warper to change it all. And yes, all the side/off-shoot mangas are all dead ends or bad ends. Well, except Kazumi, but that's a whole different story. It's not bad, but most people hate it because the original five don't show up in it except for the fact that the group in Kazumi names their attacks due to fangasming over Mami's Tiro Finale. Oh and eff Kyousuke. You'll know why if you watched/read it.

And yush, I would go on about the yuri in it, but that's another topic. XD Nearly all pairings are possible, yes, even harem ship.

Do we get to link to, like, link the best doujin mangas/'webmangas' of the series? XD

Oh and should I spoiler tag half of my post? Also, Mami or Candeloro? Can't decide which as my new avvie.

Don't ask me mang, I'm not the admin of this place or have I ever bothered to read about whether or not there are rules about linking to sites that offer whatever, licensed manga and so on.

Just because I can, let's say we can post links.

Gensokyo, a good place to go to for some translated Touhou doujinshi. Which there is a lot. Don't ask me if this is a depot for every translated Touhou-related doujin though, I think there was some Wiki that had some up a few years back, but I don't know if it's still up or if it's related to this site.

Lulz, I have been here for a REALLY long time till I dropped off. But eh, it's more of the idea on it. Yes to doujins here or only official ones? Also, Danbooru links? XD And you seem to not notice I have about 10GB of Touhou yuri on my HDD... That's Zipped/Rar. .-. Oh and the wiki has a ton of broken links now. I can upload my copy for some if need be, but I don't have them all. Also, I know of a little 'secret' archive with a now, outdated storage of direct DLs for some of the older mangas.

I need more KyoMamiLotte. Hell, even plain KyoMami works... Or MamiLotte... Or HomuMami. Well, Any of the girls x Mami works. Too bad every scanlate groups I know only scanlate MadoHomu or KyoSaya. *Sighs.*

My fav doujins at the moment are THE LAST STORY and Busou Shoujo Madoka ☆ Mafia. Yes, the first is a doujin, the second's a webcomic of sorts. Weekly, from what it seems. OH, BIG WARNING. Danbooru links. Mangas are safe, but the rest of the site/ads isn't exactly safe.

If I remember right, Gensokyo has both official ZUN-story doujin(with the art done by someone else) as well as a whole lot of doujin-circle made stuff. Unofficial, whatever you want to call 'em.

I know. But those tend to get uploaded so no rush to DL those. BUT, the ALL older links all don't work. You NEED to get a torrent for those. Or find someone to upload/etc. Plus, I'll prob be on the yuri doujin scanlate sites, since, you know how I roll. XD

Correction, you stated that you need a torrent. I specified that there is a torrent in their site with everything they got. And for batch DL'ing torrents are your safest bet to combat sudden connection breaks, in case you somehow can't continue the DL with your downloader, whatever it may be.

But yeah whatever.

The torrent link is bloody obvious if you went on the site, assuming they didn't change it from the Yuyuko-ish themed one. and yes, you can try the OLD links, none worked, so I ended up looking for other DL areas and found that hidden archive. And I can continue DLing even if my connection breaks, so that doesn't matter. Plus, it's not just me on that, seen some other people preferring Directs for some reason or another.

Anyways, why am I in the Soul Crushingly Depressive pool?

Torrents are the best choice for those with crappy connections and low DL speeds. So that's me.

ANYWAY.

Shingeki no Kyojin is a fantasy-setting manga. To sum it up: Humanity is living inside a huge walled area of land, with everything beyond the wall the territory of giants, who have no other goal in their life but to eat humans. Story starts with one of the outer walls being broken and the giants taking over that piece of land that had been the humans for a century or two. It's mainly an action-series, although with some plot of MYSTERY. Where the giants came from, why do they eat humans when they don't even need the nutrients(they puke up everything in their stomach every once in a while) and yadda yadda yadda check it out.

Drifters is from the same guy who made Hellsing. To sum it up, historical figures that have been reported as dead, killed, missing or whatever are picked up from reality by one of the two mysterious people of mystery, who then toss them in a fantasy world with elves, dwarves, goblins and so on, to wage war against the other person's faction. It's ridiculous and totally great for a no-brains series for entertainment.

It's too late to think of more, but keep 'em coming dammit. I need something new to read.

Manga, mang. Empty Re: Manga, mang.

Post by Leb Thu Nov 22, 2012 6:07 pm

Because of people being too scared to show off just how much of a lifeless loser and/or nerd they are, it's obviously up to me to post about a few manga again because the selection here right now looks like it was eavesdropped off of Hot Topic customers or the NarutoFan forum, buried under all the ^_^, xD and @3@.

The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer is a relatively short shounen action series, that manages to be long enough to keep you well entertained, and short enough not to ride on success or milk the concept dry, forcing you to keep reading just to get it the gently caress over with(read: Naruto, Bleach(possibly One Piece)). To sum up the plot, the Earth is on a countdown to destruction, threatened to be smashed to pieces by a really big hammer, floating in space, that no one but the selected group of heroes can see. The heroes and their animal sidekicks(who are also the source of their power or something like that) must defeat the evil wizard guy who walks around in his pajamas and the bunch of golems he has crafted to destroy the Earth, ONE YEAR AT A TIME(did I mention he timetravels at the pace of 1 year at a time, each time playing a game with the defenders of the Earth, where the winner either saves the Earth by killing the bad guy or the Earth is blown to bits by the giant space hammer after the wizard kills all the heroes(guess which side has been more successful so far)). Besides the decent shounen action series bit, the manga also managed to get a few feel's out of me, the bad kind, the sort of feels that makes Tim turn off his computer, huddle in a corner and cry while eating a bucket of ice-cream with his hands while hugging the dakimakura of his now-dead waifu. Check it out.

Sengoku Youko is another shounen-I-guess-I'm-not-good-at-classifying-things-into-genres series by the same author that made the Biscuit Hammer series. Two good old Japanese demons/youkai/supernatural beings are going around the country, correcting evildoers to straighten out their act and stop being lawless jerks. On their way doing this they are joined by a n00b samurai-wannabe, a girl with a demon/youkai/supernatural being fused with them or something and of course find a big bad boss in the form of a bunch of demon exorcists who decided that combining people and demons/youkai/supernatural beings was totally the best idea ever and there is no way it could ever go wrong. The series also manages to squeeze a few feels out of me, and either I like to gloss things over just because I enjoy them, or then this is a shounen series where the characters have actual character growth outside of "I now have a new superpower", although I'm not saying there isn't any of that here, because there is. So if you like some plot with your action, give this series a go.

Blame! is best described as a manga that's all about scenery porn. The silent hero of the series journeys across a superstructure, which apparently is a Dyson Sphere or the whole solar system of Sol(I don't know), for reasons that I'm not really that sure yet(I need to buy more volumes, note to self). On his way to where-ever he is going, he occasionally comes across human settlements, cyborgs and/or robots that may or may not be trying to kill him. Luckily for the main character, they are in possession of the strongest handgun in the history of the universe, functioning like a railgun without the excessive size and packing the comparative power of a supernova in pew-pew lasers that the gun shoots at everything the MC wants to be dead, which is a lot of things(although in his defense, they were asking for it(by trying to kill him)). So if you hadn't figured it out yet, this is a sci-fi series. Perhaps even cyberpunk, I don't really know, is that even a genre? There is some plot buried under all the insanely detailed bleak world of metal and crazy crap, but I found myself not really giving a crap because the setting is so nicely portrayed that it might as well be about finding the magic unicorns of Saturn, and then shooting them, THE END. It also helps that our silent hero doesn't feel the need to have internal monologue or flashback giving all the angsty dark explanation to why he is a silent hero, with a gun that is about as subtle as a brick to the face, thrown from a speeding truck that mows down your living room with ACDC blasting at full volume through the many speakers installed, while you are drinking your coffee in the kitchen. Check it out, it's totally not a presumptuous series, I swear!

Manga, mang. Empty Re: Manga, mang.

Post by Leb Mon Nov 26, 2012 5:46 pm

I would start this post with some wise-ass remark about other possible recommendators of manga, but I think I won't because from the lack of posts from people besides me, I think they all read the last posts, ran home and cried on their cross-over fanfiction between Naruto and Twilight, where Sasuke is also a vampire and Naruto a werewolf, as well as a GIRL.

With that aside, let's talk about manga.

Vinland Saga
This is the newcomer's Berserk, except not at all. The plot is about vikings, and their crazy adventures, except not really, for the crazy adventures part at least. More like rape and pillage. Also a story about this one guy's journey for revenge, and some sort of political scheme that had to do with killing the king to become king at one point, led by the prince who might as well be the princess, which also is brought up as a joke as far as I remember. VS might not be the most logical or realistic of manga when it comes to telling how vikings raped and pillaged, but I got to say I stopped caring about that when their way of storming a castle, located in the middle of a lake which was surrounded by a forest, was to carry their viking ships on their backs, throw them in the lake and then screw up everything because the moat was by then as effective as using "I read manga and watch anime" as a line for hitting on attractive members of the opposite sex.

Medaka Box
To sum up this series fast would be: Mary Sue beats the snot out of everyone. Luckily her Mary Sue-like tendencies are brought up by the plot and other characters a couple of times, and there's at least some reason why she's so Mary Sue besides "the plot says so so we can ship them with this male character" and whatever. It's a nice shounen series to read and waste time with, but I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece of plot, which by the way Kubo should take example from since both have a thing to using WHAT A TWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIST's to drive the story on, although Medaka Box manages that without suddenly devolving to really-loving-stupid.

I'm starting to run out of stuff to recommend here, and with very little gained from this thread.

The Electric Tale of Pikachu. It's out of print though, but you can find it on mangafox and other manga sites. I have all 4 volumes, though vol 3 is in Chinese(Taiwan ver)... And is the the uncensored one. Uncensored=Larger bewbs and an extra 'scene'. Yes, vol 4 is BLOODY rare (Only in the US, I think.) due to the rocketshipping pic. But I have it, and was confuzzled why... Then again, I got like, the last copies the store here had. And yes, chinese ver cos I gotten unlucky and they ran out of the Eng ver. Oddly, the Chinese ver is printed on WAY better quality paper, and is still white after...Over 8-10 (12, if I'm right.) years. Like the other Pokemon mangas, only more to the anime than the games. Find a scanlated copy, best of both worlds, I'll say. Assuming there's one. XD

HAHA IT'S TIME FOR CATS

Neko Musume Michikusa Nikki
It's an episodic/chapteric(?) story about a monster catgirl and her monster friends(monster as in Japanese folklore monsters). Hijinx ensue. It's really super kawaii.

Tonnura-san
It's the story of Japanese Garfield. Voiced by Norio Wakamoto.

Either I read too much, or I'm surrounded by scrubs.
I'm inclined to believe in the latter.

Silver Spoon
It's a manga by the same person who made Full Metal Alchemist. Long story short, a guy with no plans for the future(which obviously in Japan is equivalent as worshipping Satan is in America) ends up going to an agricultural school. Hijinx of various levels ensue as he figures out the hard way how life is for those who have to produce all the food people eat. And there's even plot progression as well!

Assassination Classroom
A mysterious being with the speed of Mach 20 has blown up 70% of the Moon as an announcement of their existence, along telling the world leaders that in one year they will destroy the Earth. However, there is a catch. He's going to teach the Class E of a Japanese school during that one year, and it is those losers who have been tasked with carrying out the assassination that even militaries around the world have been unable to do. And what with the 10 billion yen pricetag on the Teacher's head, why wouldn't they?

Hijinx ensue. It's a pretty good humor manga, and currently about 2 months in to the 12 months deadline of world destruction.
