Re: What College Are You Attending?
look at everything about different schools. Decide if you want in-state or out of state. Is their mascot cool? Whats the teacher to student ratio? Is the campus pretty? Are finances an issue with a particular school? etc. etc.
But most importantly, MAKE COLLEGE VISITS.

Re: What College Are You Attending?
I have been visiting many, many colleges. Very many colleges.
I think I have one that I like, but I'm not sure. Keeping my eyes open.

Re: What College Are You Attending?
Lol awesome. So a foreign language is required at my school and I decided to deviate from the latin i took in high school and instead took German. Needless to say (but ill say it anyways) it is definitely the best class choice i made.

This seems like a very important point.Whats the teacher to student ratio?

Re: What College Are You Attending?
Most of the schools that I'm looking at have very, very close student:teacher ratios. Like, between 10 and 20 students per teacher.
Re: What College Are You Attending?
Well that's good. I will say some of my lectures have 100+ students in them, but for the most part my classes have about 25 students in them, so its pretty good for a state school i like to think.

Winnie wrote:On this same topic, does anyone have tips on choosing what college they want to attend? My SAT score came out a lot higher than anticipated and I have a pretty good GPA, so I suddenly have a lot more choices than I imagined.
Along with other things mentioned already, some things to consider in no particular order: location, class size, sports teams and clubs, notoriety of school/ranking of program, selection of majors offered (tons of people transfer majors; I did), city size, price, and climate.
Things you shouldn't consider, but may be on your mind: Where friends are going. Try to find what fits you the best.
An important point my old high school counselors had was that based on your grades you'll want to have at least one "safety school" that you're basically guaranteed access to, one "target school" that you meet the criteria for and would be happy at, and one "reach school" where you have a small chance of getting into.
Try to not get too stressed out over the decision though, chances are you'll have fun, meet interesting new people, and learn a lot at just about anywhere you choose. Above all, get your apps done on time if you're considering going somewhere.

will you share your score with us? if it's for US colleges the specific number is usually pretty important.
Any way, if you're looking at going to school in the US erik's advice is good, but scholarship/tuition will be a pretty big deal too unless if it's a state school. I assume you'll probably pursue writing or something in that area? college can be a great experience for something like that, but making money in it has more to do with internships/your personal work after school so don't get too caught up with prestige unless you get into an ivy with good aid like columbia or princeton. private, non-ivy liberal art schools schools are ridiculously expensive and you might end up going to the one with the best scholarship offer if you go to one. Debt is never a good thing especially if your degree program doesn't walk you into a job (read: most liberal art degrees). again, don't get blinded by the prestige of a name of a school. Look at the program you'll be going into instead.
just remember you can find a group of friends & do just about anything anywhere, especially if it's a bigger school. small classes aren't necessarily better if the professor is mediocre.
don't be afraid to research schools if you have a specific major in mind too, there's a lot of good articles/lists out there. a lot of people are afraid to do that kind of research and just go off your counselor/friends' recommendations, but chances are you'll find a lot of good options you haven't thought of before. out-of-state state schools can be a good option and give good aid too like u of iowa, vermont, virginia etc. you'll find a great school no matter what but don't underplay the importance of aid for private US schools!
they grow up so fast : (
Re: What College Are You Attending?
I don't think it's a good idea to post my score (my parents told me not to give it out for some reason), but it's well above 2100. And I'm looking to major in Video Game Art.
I've found a couple of schools that fit my wants, (DePaul, Champlain, and Drexel, mainly) but am still looking. Thank you all for the help!

Re: What College Are You Attending?
Top choice turned out to be too expensive, so now I'm looking at going to VCU with some kind of grad school at DePaul University.
I'd really like to go to DePaul, but it's in the middle of Chicago, and that terrifies me.

Gratz Cial!
Chicago is a wonderful city, like most cities it has its crime though. Gotta be sure to travel in at least pairs when wandering the city.

Join some clubs, keep on top of your work, make some relationships with a professor or two by going to office hours, and let loose on the weekends.

Re: What College Are You Attending?
Record your lectures/tutorials if permitted to do so. You might not end up listening to them again in their entirety, but it's better than wondering why you've written seemingly contradictory notes, or incomplete notes if the lecturer speaks too quickly.
