I don't check my emails regularly due to it being filled with spam but I was shocked when I saw this..
"PM from Miltonius: RE: About AQW's lack of hairstyles"
I was so suprised that he actually replied to it O.O!

here's what it says..

Miltonius just sent you a private message at 7/17/2009 5:20:40:

RE: About AQW's lack of hairstyles

Your drawings are really good. You definitely have talent. I know there needs to be more hairstyles. I'll do my best to add more in the near future. So many things to do for the game it's hard to keep up. But thanks for your time explaining your suggestions. I can't give an exact date but it's on my to-do list now. Keep up the great drawings!

----------- End of Private Message (PM) -------------
Now thanks to that I can't wait to see the new hairstyles x3

You ARE great, a average artist is someone who has just taken a drawing class after never drawing before.
A lot of your stuff looks like stuff you've drawn from your head, and thats what amazes me because like Rage said, it's a big transition. Also wtg on getting a reply!

It means that you have already made that leap from seeing something and drawing it to seeing it in your head and drawing it.

Yes there is!
Something you see is there, it doesn't change. In your head it can change and can be hard to keep up with.

Flaw is right. Most people can dream up amazing things in their heads but just can't get them down on paper. You've got a talent that helps you put you imaginiation down on paper so everyone can see it. Don't take that for granted, bud.

Congratulations! :D

You guys have a gift. I have been wishing I could draw well for a long time. I can barely make the ideas in my head and getting them on paper is even harder. :trbw: You guys have a gift, embrace it, and build upon it.

but that's the point. you shouldn't compare yourself to others. You'll be way too critical of yourself. If you aren't satisfied with your style currently just keep practicing and telling yourself you'll get better and it will happen. Comparing your work to others is usually the worst thing artists do because it trashes their confidence. trust me i do it too, and it never helps. I'll just bet you have mad skillz but you're just being to critical of yourself.

I ask you this..
How can you improve if you don't compare your work with others?

Comparing artworks help you see your weakness and strengths but there are times that other artist artworks makes you awe in their greatness and sometimes gives you low self esteem when you compare your work to theirs..

You can improve solely by seing what others think of your art and just practicing. Usually, comparisons don't mean much, seeing as everyone has their own unique style.

Lol, I didn't know this thread was still alive.

Mash, comparing you to me is like taking you,

Anime artist

to me,

Realisim artist.. kinda...

and saying, "Aww, her eyes are soo much smaller than mine! And so much more proportionate! Ahh!"

Well, duh? It's a totally different kind of art.

I didn't meant it that way..
what I'm saying is that its still in the category of manga(anime also if you think it that way) cause even if its manga type of drawings there are alot of uniqueness or a subcategory of it due to the artist applying his own view of point in his/her drawing manga style.

For example the difference of Naruto to Bleach..

Naruto : Masashi Kishimoto focuses his drawings on the background or the places rather than the characters. His illustrations of Konoha and many places within Naruto are very detailed as well as imaginative.

While on the other hand..

Bleach : Tite Kubo tends to focus his drawings more on the characters. His figures show care especially on their hands, hair, feet (which believe me, are VERY hard to do). He remarked in an interview that he doesn't really like drawing the landscapes but instead wants you the reader to focus on the character especially on fight scenes.

Do you get what I mean now?
To make it simple there are still differences in which a noob like me could get ideas on other artist(that are ABOVE my level) to improve my *cough*lame*cough* drawing skills/style.

I know you think I'm a good drawer but to tell you the truth I just admire people that draw beyond me and somehow I wanna grasp what they can do so to make it short, its like I steal their ideas and make it mine(I feel like a pretty bad person now.. *sulk*)

It's not really stealing an idea if you make it your own. A good artist like you is able to insert outside ideas into his style to make great art.

My art teacher is really good, but something that I hate about art is "the frames"
The four frames cover all aspects of art, my teacher says.
One important frame here is the "Postmodern Frame"

'Borrowing other people's idea and adding a new level of personal meaning to the piece.' - My Teacher.

Stealing is a technicality, what you are doing is not stealing.
Charon knows what he's talking about...

So, 'stealing' ideas and making it your's is very postmodern, my teacher would be proud of you if he was here.
