Re: The Saga...
Lol, I was hoping someone would identify the Monty Python homage. Neeh!
And if you REALLY want to know more about Vance:
He's nearly a month older than Juliana, and two inches taller. He's also got dark red hair, hazel eyes (my tribute to Romeo and Juliet: "Thou wilt quarrel with a man for cracking nuts, having no other reason but because thou hast hazel eyes."), a tan, some serious muscles, and often looks angry. He's ridiculously competitive and isn't always the most tactful person. One key point is that he wasn't in the original Sundry stories that Amara and I wrote; Vance Tanner is my replacement for our old Bob Thin. Vance is a much more sophisticated and subtle type than the crass idiot whose place he takes, and he's going to be a lot easier to relate to--not to mention a lot healthier. (Ironically, "the Thin Man" was fat.)
Never let it be said that I keep too much back. And you're going to see Vance again very soon... but not before the one person Juliana most admires shows up!

Heh... I thought you were also making homage to "How Not To Be Seen".
Great dialogue exchange!

Re: The Saga...
Thanks, Rage. I make so many Monty Python references every day in real life that I'm probably not even aware of some of them... Though I do know it's a Monty Python thing that every time my dad comes home, he lets us know by yelling "Burglar!" ("By the way, have you ever considered the merits of a nicely matched set of encyclopedias?")

Re: The Saga...
...And I've got a new chapter out! This one is a lot shorter than the previous chapters, so I might improve on it later if the inspiration takes me... Though I also think that I really, really want to get to Chapter 10 now because we finally skip ahead a little further and see some really, really important stuff for the first time in a while. And, as promised, we meet the one person Juliana admires most! Remember this scene, because he's an important guy...

Re: The Saga...
What the...? (And where did you get that chalkboard?)
Why do people always find things in my stories that I didn't intend to put there? Vance and Juliana are not in love; they're just very close friends. Platonic friends. Vance actually has his eye on somebody else,* though that's all I'll say on the subject for now...
*walks out, then peeks back around the corner* Is this what it's like to be J. K. Rowling?
,* Emilllyy....... (I figured this out myself!)

Re: The Saga...
Hmm, I expected Vance to end up being a threat, not an ally. Ah well, a pleasant surprise! I can just see the two flipping over each others mechs in close combat. Bring us more!

A) Not enough comedy :( It's like Juliana dissappreared into a serious writer!
B) It seems to so far be sticking to the plot a bit too much.
C) I just realised that if you press shift +backsapce it poofs your whole message.
D) You used hotpink text and that is a regular trademark of Winnie Brave, all rights reserved.

Re: The Saga...
Juliana, you'll never guess what happened.
I was assigned an "All About Me" thing for the first day of school. One of the fill out's was "Fav. Book."
I Hopelessly racked my brain for somthing to but on that line. Hastily, I put down "The Saga Of Traitor and Betrayed."
My teacher read this and then said that she had never heard of the book. I kindly explained to her she could find it online, writted by Juliana Sundry. She then asked if it was published. I said no. She then told me to put down a real book.
Fairenheit 451 now rests on that line.

Re: The Saga...
Lol, Winnie, I feel so... approved-of. And someday... hopefully soon... I'll have a real book written.
Sorry the next chapter's taking so long to get up; school's started and I'm fairly well drowning in homework. Ah, well, it's the inevitable consequence of taking four honors classes at a school with only three periods.

Re: The Saga...
Now now, let us stay on topic, I find the revelation of Vance (well to me that is) very interesting. Sorry if you think I am modding your discussion.

Y'all are so funny... and not to worry, it doesn't bother me.

If I told you now, I'd have to shoot you so that you wouldn't tell everyone else. I'm actually going to get to that part in the story... you'll know it when you see it, though you'll find some things that appear to contradict the short story before you get there...
Okay, I'll tell you. In Qshov.

No, Winnie, that's nothing like what it says. The K-word actually is supposed to be important, both as a reference to the original Sundry stories and as a means of identifying the characters of Vance and Juliana, but nobody goes ploo. And for the record, Vance is more of a salty-mouth than Juliana is.

FINE THEN. Juliana hears Vance say the K word and then the mecca goes plooooeeee and then vance is a ghost but Juliana gets saved.

Re: The Saga...
Wins, you're way off track on those theories (i.e. the real explanation has absolutely NOTHING to do with the K-word), but, ah, who cares? They're funny, which I take it was their intended purpose anyway.
Well, I've finally finally finished the next chapter! (Which took a lot longer than I thought it would, which is why I am posting this message at just shy of a quarter to two in the morning, several weeks after I started writing it.) There are some major developments in this chapter, which paves the way for a lot of things that I've been very excited to put into the story! Including the plotlet that will ultimately tie into an intermission I've got planned out, and the whole reason for the title of this story, and even a really funny quote I've had bouncing around in my head for quite some time! Though I'll restrain myself and refrain for the time being from telling you any more about what I've got going for the future, I'd like to inform you all that a good part of the reason for the delay of this latest chapter was that I was trying to make it an exciting one. For that reason, I'd really appreciate feedback as to whether or not I succeeded. Go read!

Re: The Saga...
Juli, may I mention your story is amazing...
Keep it up, I have an idea for it later on (not interfering with the story, but something awesome)

Re: The Saga...
Wow, Flaw, you're really that impressed? And I'd welcome any ideas; I know the basic plotline of the story and have for some time, but formulating enough appropriate content to fill in the gaps is surprisingly difficult.
For some reason, I have a tendency to assemble soundtracks for my stories and their characters while I'm writing them, thus providing something to focus through... I might post my Vance soundtrack sometime. Actually, I think I'll post as much of Vance's soundtrack as has been covered in the story so far...
"Hero" by Nickelback
"Dashboard" by Modest Mouse
"Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down
It's a pretty short list, but then I'm just barely started with the story. Vance's character will get a lot more complex pretty soon, and as he does his soundtrack will get longer.

Becuase he thinks your forty...
I love the next chapter, I feel so bad for Thomas.. but.. wasn't he killed by ailens once he was abducted? And doesn't Caroline come back and have to tell the kids? When they were like, 15?

Re: The Saga...
Winnie, you've got several details from The Story of the Sundry Family wrong, and I'm changing a few for the Saga as well. Let me explain:
1) You're right that Thomas was originally killed by aliens AFTER being abducted, but I decided to change that slightly to create dramatic tension and to agree with the direction his character has taken.
2) Her name is Carol, not Caroline, but yes, she comes back and tells the kids. I plan to incorporate that into the Saga, just in a slightly different way because of the differences in setting.
3) The original Story of the Sundry Family took place in the year 2000, with Juliana born in the year 1970. The kids were in their early thirties, but they hadn't moved away from home yet because there wasn't anywhere for them to move to.
