Talk to the guy who teaches you to catch pokemon, then surf on the right edge of Cinnabar Island, and you will encounter numerous glitched pokemon, including Missingno AKA M (In blue), A glitched Mewtwo over level 100, and a glitched golbat level 128. This was only in Red and Blue.

To get Mew, you just had to walk onscreen to a trainer that would see you, press start and fly, so they would walk toward you while in midair, then walk around in a patch of grass and you would find a Mew, around level 7.

And also, I forgot to mention killing Missingno is the old item duplicator glitch. Take an item that you want more of, put it in your 6th spot, kill Missingno, and you have a large quantity of the item, often represented by odd symbols. The above site says 128 of them.
