Monster Hunter (Freedom Unite / Tri)
Hey, so I'm just wondering who out there is playing Monster Hunter, and also who has Freedom Unite because I'm trying to get a group together online.

Re: Monster Hunter (Freedom Unite / Tri)
Monster Hunter is a little game where you kill things like this:
You start off weak and with not much equipment or money, and kill monsters and complete quests so you can create better armor and weapons and explore more places.
The series is getting rather large now.

In ranged weapons there are bows, and bowguns, and in melee weapons there are gunlances.

Now onto serious matters. It sounds like a fun game.. I might get it if I ever save up the money. But for now I'm fine with soontobe halo reach.

Re: Monster Hunter (Freedom Unite / Tri)
I feel sorry for you. You should've got Freedom Unite instead.
Anywho... onto Lao-Shan tips.
Weak point: Belly
Elemental Weakness: Dragon
It's honestly a very simple quest. Bring your potions, bombs and whatnot. Wind-resistant armor helps alot too.
You can try and kill it by staying under it and attacking the belly constantly, or aim for a time out by attacking it's legs and staggering it.
You can jump onto it's back from the bridges that you find in each of the areas. If you do, plant the anti-dragon bomb and start carving.
Breaking it's horn nets you some neat rewards too.

Re: Monster Hunter (Freedom Unite / Tri)
I think I may actually have Unite, I just don't really know due to confusing guides that convince me I have four different games.
@Above:
I knew/have tried pretty much all of that. Any weapon types you recommend? I've tried it with a hammer, and a long sword.
I don't know how you see it as so simple, because really I think its hard if I can't kill Lao-Shan Lung with consecutive attacks for the 35 minutes. Are you referring to defending the fort? Because thats the one I'm doing.

Re: Monster Hunter (Freedom Unite / Tri)
Unite is an expanded Freedom 2.
Hammer > All (in terms of pure damage).
Lances are good due to being able to stab upwards.
Actually KILLING the thing is difficult... I advise getting some late/end-game dragon weapons before even trying.
It has monstrous health (duh!).
Repelling is simple... stall it for 35 minutes.
Heres a neat little fan site you can use... it has damage calculators and weapon recommendations. http://www.reign-of-the-rathalos.com/

Re: Monster Hunter (Freedom Unite / Tri)
Well, I can't get end-of-the-game weapons if I have not gotten past this. Don't be like every Tigrex guide I looked at that said use Devil Slicer which was not yet acquirable Velu.
So, stalling it... explain that.

Re: Monster Hunter (Freedom Unite / Tri)
Attacking it's legs will force Lao-Shan to fall over, stunning it for a good period of time.
Attacking it's head will cause it to flinch for a few secs.
If you time out and Lao-Shan hasn't destroyed your fort... you win!
I'm sorry if my explanations are horrible... am not good at explaining things

Re: Monster Hunter (Freedom Unite / Tri)

Re: Monster Hunter (Freedom Unite / Tri)
Would be great. But then i'd have to find some way to set up Adhoc Party.
I also recently restarted my game... in an attempt to get back into it.
Didn't work and I got hooked onto Phantasy Star Portable 2 instead

For Unite / Freedom 2 Item Lists and Weapon Trees... go here -> http://minegarde.com
Nice and helpful.
I wanna ask a question... what's your favourite weapon type? Mine have to be Dual Blades.

Re: Monster Hunter (Freedom Unite / Tri)
I bet you'll love longswords. They're basically faster greatswords, with slightly different strokes.
Personally, I prefer longswords and hammers, for their raw power yet some maneuverability remains.

I don't have it, I'm referring to the games Velu was talking about. They're for the most part really similar.

Re: Monster Hunter (Freedom Unite / Tri)
Capturing is easy, in Unite you just have to get it to run in a trap when its health is low and it shows its weakness (often limping) and then through a couple of tranq bombs at it.
