Flash v. RMXP. Empty Flash v. RMXP.

Post by Snukems Thu May 05, 2011 5:39 am

Our two options for TRTG are Flash and RPGMaker XP.

With Flash we'll end up doing a sword fight stuff thing, but additionally with RMXP we can have POKEMON added in.

Discuss.

Obviously there is only one choice here, and that choice is RMXP.

A wild Cial appears!

In all seriousness though, we're going for more of a fantasy theme right? Let's do flash.

I'm undecided, really. We can use either if it's just a get out a sword and killkillkill thing, but, you know.

Flash sounds best to me. I'm pretty sure a lot of our artists are more familiar with it so that would save the transition to pixel art.

New information reveals our coder is less familiar with flash and more familiar with RMXP. But Tim raises a good point also.

I say we start with flash and if it proves too difficult switch to RMXP.

When I was talking about using pokemon essentials I meant with heavy adjustments. As in a complete redo of your bag, trainer card, NO POKEMON, no wild pokemon grass, and just about everything that would make it like Pokemon. I still choose RMXP over flash though. It's way easier to work with and is a natural platform for pixel art based games.

I wonder if I should start looking into AS2/3 to help you guys a bit on my weekends. I mean all the 13 year old scriptkiddies on Newgrounds manage to spit out flash games all the time, how difficult can it be for someone who's programming stuff for a living?.

I really do think we should stay away from Pokemon, unless it's completely changed like Darre suggested.

@Darre: Alright, Boss.
@Dig: Thanks man.
@Shadow: Alright.

LOL, I just had an idea. Zards battling like Pokemon. Will not do without approval. But yeah, it looks like Flash is winning. Any good sites to learn AS3 on, guys? And someone send Flash to Dig and me, please. Otherwise I can't really make a thing. Since I have no idea how to do Flash on Notepad.

Although I already have RMXP. Also, will the battles be done in the overworld or in a turn-based battle scene?

Alright. Just me without Flash, then. What about the rest of my post? I'd like some commentary on that, if possible.

Eheh, it's a little more complicated. But it's just some basic editing, you should have no problem at all.

Can you run RMXP and the final product on your mac with all of original usability and functions? Because if you can, than I choose RMXP.

Alright, so RMXP?

WAAIIIIITT,

I just realized, I don't think I'll be able to make the character save for every week/month's update with RMXP.

We might be able to, though.

Well, first of all, with scripts, you can change the battle system for RMXP. I've got a couple and yeah~. Flash is more versatile but its more complicated. If you count scripts out, RMXP is definitely less confusing and less tiring. I've had experience with both and I'm gonna say RMXP would be better. RMXP is mainly used to make games therefore it should be more straight forward.
