Re: The Elder Scrolls Online
Well if you want highly tactical combat then Skyrim is nothing for you, that's for sure. But neither was Oblivion as far as I remember. Maybe you should use magic instead. The ragdoll physics really make slinging thunderbolts around a lot of fun.

If you thought that sword fighting was better in Oblivion you might be smoking crack.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online
I saw no difference in sword fighting game-to-game. This is the problem. I tried magic, but the shop system was irritating, it didn't seem to flow logically. I had no idea where to buy stronger spells. Could not figure out if it was level based and I needed to play for 87 hours to get spells even if I had the money or destruction stat, or if it was location based with certain stronger areas.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online
Magic is probably the easiest thing to grasp in skyrim, and it is quite logical.
Basically, certain spells need perk points to use (if a spell says "novice", you should be able to use it from the start) and you can buy spells almost anywhere, especially from each keep's court wizard, which, as you would expect, have the best spells. From then on, it's basically just figuring out what each monster's weaknesses are and exploiting them with spells.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online
No they don't. If you have the magic points needed then you can use every spell, even if you never invested a perk point into the according skill tree. The perks however can halve the mana cost and have other beneficial boosts to the spells. Also, the higher your rank in a certain school, the less mana a spell costs in general.Basically, certain spells need perk points to use
To the contrary, the shop system is logical. It makes sense that you can't buy spell books (which are needed to learn a spell) from a blacksmith or a general goods dealer. And every innkeeper in every town will tell you that there is a magic college in Winterhold and that the court wizard of the jarl can help you with your magic needs.I tried magic, but the shop system was irritating, it didn't seem to flow logically.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online
I thought that higher levels of magic were available if you had the "journeyman" or "master" perks or whatever. Nevermind.
In that case, magic is even easier.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online
Most of the spells are very impracticable though if you don't have the according perks to halve the mana cost. You'll need a ridiculous amount of mana unless you're at very high skill level in the according school.

Real mages know enchanting and pour their health/stamina/magic boosts into magic.

I don't abuse it, I just use it normally.
Nothing gamebreaking about a 50% less cast for destruction.

Yes I can see how you wouldn't be at an advantage if destruction spells were free to cast.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online
Somewhat yes.
And I said 50%. When spells start costing 30 a sec it helps out a ton.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online
I'm pretty sure one is active first, so at most it's only 75%. 50% of 50%. Besides I don't have the perk. Why bother unlocking something that can be achieved by other means.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online
In Oblivion you just went into a mage's guild and talked to a mage. I'm pretty sure level didn't matter, you just needed to find the right guy and they would give you the spell. It was red if you could not use it. Simplicity and effectiveness. They changed the system and you guys might have been able to figure it out after 72 hours of playing, but in my 28 hours of play I had no clue what to do.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online
It is the same damn thing in Skyrim. You go into the Mages College (the mages guild equivalent) in Winterhold and talk to a mage. You just need to find the right guy and buy the spells from him. Seriously, that's not rocket science. It's not the game's fault that you play 28 hours and never talk to an innkeeper or a court wizard.
Heck, you have to talk to the Jarl's court wizard in Whiterun as part of the main storyline. He can sell you tons of spells and tell you where to get more. It's really not the game's fault that you don't pay attention.
Even the freaking general goods trader in Riverwood (the town where you get to after you make your initial escape) can sell you a few spells and you even have a dialogue option to ask him about spellbooks. For god's sake Erik. I mean seriously, what the hell.

The Jarl court wizard sold only novice spells, most that I already had, and one slightly higher rated. Nothing good.
And Rage, I'm not going to continue playing if I do not enjoy it. There are games that are much more exciting.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online
I think he was more concerned about the fact that you made it 28 hours without once hearing about the college of Winterhold.
Re: The Elder Scrolls Online
Oh I found the college. On a character that I was going to make unarmed in an attempt to have fun by becoming a Nord Viking Badass.

So how did you not figure out how magic works then? Man, you're bad at games. Maybe you should pick up a different hobby. I heard knitting is not too complicated.

How don't you find Skyrim exciting it's litterally just fighting and talking to NPCs.

Like I said, combat was boring, and others said talking to NPC's who give simple item gathering quests is not entertaining.

Another thing... when I explore a ruins or something of the sort, they all feel the same. It doesn't feel like a ton to explore, it feels like redoing parts of the game.
