Cial's Computer
So here's the thing. As you may well be aware by now with my inactivity in Steam and absence from Spess Griff, my laptop died recently. And when I say "Died" I mean "Was essentially burned alive by trying to run Deus Ex and Payday". Literally, the motherboard and processor were destroyed. But whatever.
SO my mom and I were talking and she offered to help pay for a new laptop. I don't think so. Not only is Laptop gaming awful, but it's only a matter of time before that breaks too. So, she asked about desktops, and complained that Dell's desktops were way too expensive and I should just forget about it. I replied hastily with a "There's a subreddit for that!" and whisked off to her laptop.
/r/buildapcforme delivered. Here's the PC Part Picker list of things I need to get : Clicky!. The only things missing are the keyboard, mouse and monitor (which I have) and OS (Which I can get later or obtain by other means). From what the guy on Reddit said, apparently the price for this motherboard is a steal, which is great because then maybe I can swing for a bigger Hard Drive, like a 1T or something.
Anyway, that's what's going on, I thought I'd let you all know what's up and why I'm not robusting Tom to the Derilect and back.

Re: Cial's Computer
It's obvious you know as much about computers as you know about being robust.
You should buy a Mac instead, everyone knows PC's crash every 5 minutes!
Trust me, you'll thank me once you buy a Mac Pro. Since you're upgrading, might as well go all the way though and buy the 12-core one.

Looks good to me. 600W power supply seems a bit over the top, but I guess it leaves room for upgrades.

Re: Cial's Computer
What laptop did you have? It seems like it would hibernate before actually melting itself.
Re: Cial's Computer
I had an HP Pavillion. It had a couple problems before, but eventually because of heavy use, and having less than 10% hard drive space left, it died and couldn't run Windows anymore.

Sounds good man. I remember when I was building a computer and asking people here about it. Good times.

Re: Cial's Computer
You would think it would do that, but some laptops are crappily built and don't manage to do that.V wrote:What laptop did you have? It seems like it would hibernate before actually melting itself.
I know from personal experience, my old laptop overheated and ruined the graphics card.
Funny enough it was a laptop specifically designed for gaming.
But I learned from my mistakes. I gained knowledge. I now know that there is no such thing as a gamer laptop.

Wow seriously? I have that exact same one and it works great. Though I haven't played anything else besides tf2 on it.
Re: Cial's Computer
im no computer pro, but if your last computer overheated, shouldn't you consider including a cooler? LIQUID COOLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or does your case cool stuff because it has cooler in the name. Dont be tricked, it may be trying to say that it's a cooler case than the other ones. Computers are sneaky people.

Re: Cial's Computer
> liquid cooling
Haha no.
Unless you overclock you won't need liquid cooling in your desktop pc, period. You won't even need an extra fan in your case, the fans on the CPU and graphics card will do the job just fine. If there are proper fans on there, that is.
In case you weren't paying attention, which seems to be the case, his last computer was a laptop. That's a huge difference when it comes to the danger of overheating.

Re: Cial's Computer
Liquid cooling is 100% required in any gaming PC unless you're a scrub who only plays baby games (you).

Re: Cial's Computer
You, sir, have no idea what you're talking about.
Unless your definition of ''any gaming PC'' is a $2000+ machine.
Building liquid cooling into that setup Cial posted would accomplish nothing except waste a ton of money.

Re: Cial's Computer
I agree with Tim though. I was playing COD 2 on my cousin's sisters computer without cooling before and it was overclockheating like crazy
~~~90% of gamers dont treat their computer rite n only use floppydisk fans. put this in ur sig if you're the 10% who dont~~~
Well I was playing COD 2 on my sister's cousins computer without cooling before and it was working smooth and without problems.
Re: Cial's Computer
I ran this old laptop with integrated graphics and such. The works. Couldn't run anything, overheated in seconds. I put in a liquid cooling system and suddenly I could run Crysis 2 on max settings at 1080p 560 frames per second
Re: Cial's Computer
Yeah well I once ran this old laptop with integrated graphics and whatnot, couldn't run anything, overheated in seconds. I put in a liquid cooling system and suddenly it turned into an airplane and flew away.
Re: Cial's Computer
Laptops suck for everything except generic work-related tasks. If you ever play anything seriously on a laptop and whine about it not running well, get on our level you scrub.
Re: Cial's Computer
TF2 was awesome on my Pavillion. The thing that killed it was trying to run Deus Ex: Human Revolution as well as a couple other AA titles that would overheat the machine. Then, of course, the heat sensors were damaged, so it wouldn't even attempt an emergency shutdown. In fact, if I remember correctly, I used to get a boot screen that said something along the lines of "The system was shut down automatically because of an internal temperature of 99999999999 degrees, continue?".
