High School...!
Okay, I am deathly afraid of it. I know that some people are already done with it, and some people are in it, and some people aren't even there yet.

Re: High School...!
Run. Run now!
But seriously, if your High School is big enough, it's hard for people to bug you, there's just too many for people notice you.
I have 3 core classes this semester, so if you get that you're screwed

Re: High School...!
Don't overdo it with honors classes so you don't end up needing to drop a class...
AP classes are useful if you have the time to take them.
Don't try to stand out too much, or people will be irritated. Its alright to make a name for yourself, but make sure it is positive to most individuals or the individuals that matter to you.
Don't be afraid to meet new people. Some good friends I hang out with almost every weekend all came from other middle schools.
Set a lunch routine ASAP. Cafeteria food could either be alright, or kill you emotionally.
While lunch time is good for doing homework you forgot to do, its a bad habit to put off homework until it.
Enjoy high school, they're either some of the best years of your life, or the worst. Its all what you make of it.

Re: High School...!
It's actually really fun if you can still hang out with friends. High School is a great place to make new friends. But it can also be one of the saddest times of your life. One of my friends killed himself last year.
Re: High School...!
Don't bring too much money to school if you even remotely have fastfood places near the school. It's a good way to blow hundreds of dollars a year.
Join some teams or clubs, it's a great way to meat new people.
Stay out of the way of the school's eldest generation for the first week and drop the attitude that you are the oldest generation of your school because now it's the opposite and your the little guy.
Don't be afraid to try new things and have a good time.
That's my advice after one year. Now onto grade 10. You'll enjoy it.

Re: High School...!
High school was quite the turning point for me. My personality ended up changing a lot from a shy little girl in intermediate to a slightly crazy, confident young woman by the time I finished my time there.
Maybe that had something to do with the fact I was always using the communal microwave to bake cakes during study break.
I had some brilliant teachers over my time there, and my biology teacher was the one who ultimately inspired me to take the career pathway I am working towards these days.
I'll just give you two pieces of advice since most of what I would have said has been covered by the others:
- Never be too afraid or too proud to ask the teachers if you don't understand something. Chances are you've also done a favour for the rest of your class.
- Never get involved in yoga ball jousts, someone will end up in hospital.

Don't be so cynical.
Alt is right. You will meet some of the best teachers you will ever have, and also some of the worst. When you come to the point of meeting one of the worst, you just have to sort of deal with it and try to take a positive spin off of it, like getting ready for college by reading your book to learn more than learning from listening to your teacher.

Re: High School...!
One of the most important things right here. Unless if your school has enough funding to have its own meal plans, eating unhealthy food every day can really get you down. I personally suggest making your own (and knowing how to cook is a really good skill to have later in your life).Set a lunch routine ASAP. Cafeteria food could either be alright, or kill you emotionally.
I have to disagree with Erik regarding in not taking all honors/AP classes, at least if your school is public. Honors classes typically have kids that are motivated and relatively intelligent: you want to be friends with these people.
As far as studying goes, don't be afraid to utilize sites like Khanacademy and Wikipedia if you're not grasping what you're being taught. It's important to realize that teachers are just people too: nine times out of ten, they're not teaching the concepts to you in an efficient way if you're not understanding something (this is also good prep for college, where it will be necessary to cross-reference information). On the contrary, as Altera said, it's important to make relationships with teachers who see potential in you: especially if they teach a subject you're interested in majoring in. If you do have ivy-leagues in mind, go to their websites and plan the courses/test preps you take to fit their admission requirements. Don't be intimidated by academics; the courses are created to improve you.
Socially, I think Darre and Altera covered it pretty well. The only thing I'd add is not to JOIN ALL THE CLUBS!. Seriously though, find one or two clubs that have things you like and are good at and make friends from there. Just be yourself and you'll meet like-minded people (granted, if you're not making friends, try being more of an extrovert). Stay away from obvious bad crowds and bullies, though I personally prefer the more agressive route of learning Judo.
You'll be great, Winnie - I know that you're very bright, so good grades shouldn't be a problem, and you're a very talented drawer which will be recognized by people. Don't be intimidated by people and don't get too wrapped up in social drama - it's as pointless as it seems.
MFW they only play sellout titles. Every damn time.MFW my school has a video game club. YEP, JOINING THAT SHIZZ.
Re: High School...!
Actually I talked to the teacher a few days ago via e-mail:
I've been trying to get a TF2 LAN party together once we have enough players.

Re: High School...!
@V
What I mean is don't overload your class load. While it might be an alright idea to get opinions from older kids, there really is no good way to find out what a class is like.
>Asians take all AP classes and stay up to 1 am at my school, say they are not overworked
>White kids take one and say its unbelievably hard

Re: High School...!
Simply because most Asians have been forced to be hardworking. It's in our culture for ages.
As for high school, I used to keep to myself all the time. Why? I thought that it's useless to have any friends and they'll just move after a year. You'd say I was horribly cold if you met me.
Just don't leave your exam revision until the last few days before the big tests. It causes a lot of headaches.

Re: High School...!
Oh dear God! Don't be afraid of high school. Those are going to be 4 of the best years in your life. Take time to make some really good friends because you will need them when stress and homework get overwhelming. DON'T procrastinate because things will catch up to you, even when it doesn't seem like they will. Don't be afriad to try new things. You'll learn a lot about yourself in the next four years especially if you push yourself to explore a little outside of your comfort zone. Join clubs that interest you and get involved. Have a lot of fun!
