It does seem like better sense the second way. I guess Venomoth wasn't cute enough to be one of the first 30 Pokemon you see in the game.

is Golduck.

Why isn't Golduck the golden colored one and Psyduck the one with the jewel on the forehead? It would make much more sense. Seems like a case of confused names to me, just like the Butterfree/Venomoth combo up there.

These guys came out in pokemon Red/Green.

I'm busy playing LeafGreen on my way to work for a while now. Attempting to rule it with just one strong pokemon. The other 5 ones are just HM slaves.

Never done that, smallest I have used is three. Type disadvantages in the league get difficult.

With Charizard you have no type disadvantages due to fire/flying. And even if you do, your high-power fire attacks are strong enough to obliterate everyone, even if is "not very effective". I can one-hit kill water pokemon with flamethrower, for example. Given that you are a few levels above them, of course. But I think that shouldn't be a problem since I only have 7 badges so far and am already at lvl79. Still have a buttload of permanent stat boosting stuff in my backpack, too. And I never grinded through high grass, only trainer fights and the occasional ambush. I even use repel in caves.

He has a weakness to electric and water attacks. With Rock attacks (especially the popular stealth rock) doing 4x damage, that's bad.
Also, Charizard has a base SPA of 109, that's pretty crummy compared to other special sweepers. The speed is 100 though, that's kinda good.

Charizard can still power through the whole game. Never beat the Elite Four with just him though.

Out of the three starter pokemon he's still the best pick for powering through the game with only one pokemon, if you ask me. And his weakness to electric and water attacks doesn't come into play if the enemy doesn't get a turn. Speed and raw power solve all of Charizard's problems.

We'll see how I will fare with the Elite Four soon. I didn't have problems with Misty or the good old Lt. Surge. Not even slightly.

I just realized i never did get very far in my heart gold file. I should start playing that again. I decided to only use pokemon I could get before the first gym and go through the game with those.

You're very lucky that Aerodactyl doesn't have the new powerful rock attacks. Then again, Aerodactyl will still prevent an issue.

What's the fun in playing a single pokemon anyways? No strategy involved besides picking your moves carefully. Unless you enjoy winning all of those battles or are discovering the pokemon, it must be boring eh?

Not boring at all, otherwise I wouldn't be doing it. I always enjoyed it more playing a single character in video games than a whole team. Apart from that it's a challenge to play the game only with one pokemon. After all I completed the game with a team of 6 pokemon before, so I needed a new goal. It also removes the hassle of switching pokemon all the time and raising them equally.
