48/x(9+3) = 288
48/x(9+3) = 288 |· (9+3)
48/x = 2592 + 864 |· x
48 = 2592x + 864x
48 = 3456x |: 3456
0.01388 repeating =/= x

Trial #2: Let x=2 and the expression = 2.

48/x(9+3) = 2 |· (9+3)
48/x = 18 + 6 |: x
48 = 18x + 6x
48 = 24x |: 24
2 = x

We know x is equal to 2, this is therefore a true statement, and the expression is 48÷2(9+3) = 2.
