Yogventures!
So Yogscast is creating a game, Yogventures (Original naming FTW)
I'm curious as to what you guys think of this. It may not even get made unless $250,000 is donated via Kickstarter, so just pointing that out

While you make a good, well thought out argument, I must disagree, the basic premise of the game is cool, and if you're objection is purely to who made it, and not to the actual content, then that's a little shallow. I really like the idea of a completely destructible world, it is similar to Minecraft, but it seems a bit more... open I guess.
Re: Yogventures!
All we need right now is another minecraft clone. And this one will be especially bad just because its yogscast.

Re: Yogventures!
So these people who helped Minecraft get big thanks to their -casts want their own Minecraft clone, and money to make it?
Right. This is stupid. Good luck to 'em though, maybe they can make it less laggy than MC is.

Re: Yogventures!
$250,000 seems a bit steep for pledging to get a game rolling.

Re: Yogventures!
There are already other clones under work that have similar artstyle as this thing. And they're not started via Kickstart.

Re: Yogventures!
And you know, I would give it a chance if the whole thing wasn't such an obvious middle finger to MC. From the blocks in the trailer and the "take that Notch" at the end, it seems like it's going to be focusing on outdoing Notch than actually having quality gameplay.
It would get a good reaction if they had enjoyable (albeit predictable) gameplay spiced up with a few jokes fans would get. But I doubt it's going to get there.

This is stupid. I lost all my dwindling respect I had for these idiots.

Re: Yogventures!
Quality gameplay = Outdoing Notch, though. Seriously. I wish they'll do what Notch didn't and have loads more variety in the game. I want a game that feels more alive. Something more in the ocean but squids that just move around. More living creatures, more plants, more ore, more gems, more everything!
MC does the basic deal pretty well but when it comes to advanced stuff to appeal to people who want to delve deeper, all you got are mods. And getting those to work together? Oh boy.

Re: Yogventures!
I don't know. Notch basically made Minecraft by himself, and then later with Jeb. He didn't expect it to be a success like it did. Sure, if he had a whole game studio devoted to the project at the time he was developing it, it could have been a whole different game with many different things to do.
This project is just sad. Yogscast isn't doing anything NEW here. They're just making another minecraft clone that looks like a horrible texture pack with stupid looking characters. Yes, they might add more to the game later, but keep in mind, Jeb and Mojang are still updating and refurbishing minecraft, so we don't know what might come in the future.

Re: Yogventures!
It's not even a "horrible texture pack" that they got going on here. More like a more cartoony artstyle, what also LOOKS like destructible enviroment that doesn't go away in blocks(except actually built blocks judging from the video).
However, you know what also has cartoony artstyle?
Lords of Uberdark.
And look, it's also a MC clone! WHADDA YA KNOW

Re: Yogventures!
There are tons of these. It's really bad. The point is, these idiots who are worshiped by a bunch of 12 year olds for playing a game think they can take a game that already works and has tons of people playing, and make it better with their own crappy comic sense.
It isn't anything new, and if it does get made, it will be a steaming pile of poo.
See:
FortressCraft
Eden
Etc. Etc.

Re: Yogventures!
Or it will be everything Minecraft failed to be despite Notch's promises. I know there's probably a list of 'em somewhere, but hey, this project MIGHT be good.
I still think it's stupid though. Especially coming from the Yog-crew. Notch really must have pissed 'em off along the Notch Defense Force.

Oh, I'd just like to point out that Simon apologised to Notch for the "In Your Face" comment.

Re: Yogventures!
Minecraft: A java based game that can somehow manage to lag and crash even the most high end computers, considered good.
This thing will probably turn out to be amazing.

Re: Yogventures!
I think the game has potential, and as such I have donated $15 to them, and may donate $10 more for the alpha access
