Im not really good with the whole ART thing,but i want one of these so im gonna try. I must ask first though,is photoshop free and where do i download it?

Photoshop is not free.
You can download a trial version for free or buy it at the Abobe website.

You could try other programs, such as Gimp, Paint.Net, or just Paint.
They wouldn't be as good as PhotoShop, but they'll suffice.

I have a new method. (I know this works in photoshop CS 4).
You have to adjust the image size (Image - > Image size) to 200%, but you have to change "Bicubic (best for smooth gradients)" to "Nearest Neighbor (preserve hard edges)"

You should try adding a darker shade of purple on the armor in some areas to create shading on it. ^.^
