Monster Profile: Trolluk
Who wants to see the moving 3D model of this guy?

Um... click on the screnshot below to load the 3D Animated Monster Viewer (Unity) that we put together for you! Then read the story of how the Trolluk was named below. For those of you who have been watching our progress... we have come a long way from that initial sketch and black and white model.

What is a Trolluk?

Loth, the adventurer who is credited with first seeing a Trollulk, commented in an exclusive interview, "It's been nearly a year since I first discovered the Trolluk. Well, I didn't discover it. Little Figgy the moglin saw it first. I remember it like it was yesterday. He raised his little finger, pointed up at the approaching monster and shouted 'TROLL'... and as the club suddenly came down on his head he let out a pretty squeeky 'UK!'. By the time our healer inquisitively asked, 'A Troll-wha?' I was already running away so fast that I barely heard the sound of that club flattening him into a pancake too. Barely. I have a new adventuring party now. We mostly just hide in the inn playing parcheesi now. What? Don't you dare give me that judging stare. Only adventures with a death wish would want to go up against a Trolluk!" We have yet to find another adventurer who has survived an encounter with a Trolluk. Loth was last seen at the Inn, bragging about a buff gave him the narrow adventage he needed to win a tricky game of parcheesi. (The "UK!" sound first appeared when you shoot a moglin in Robina's Monster Hunt)

They had a sneak preview already, but there's serious stability issues and there was 0% combat in the testing. Also something about their switch from Unity to Flash having to do something with an Adobe announcement.

Has errybody lost interest in this thing, or are they doing the logical and wait for an update that'll give us the chance to actually play the game?

Oh well, here's another update.



AdventureQuest 3D Progress Update

Even more good news! Adobe has.... *BAD ARTIX BAD. YOU SIGNED AN NDA AND ARE NOT LEGALLY ALLOWED TO TALK ABOUT THIS SUBJECT, YET.* ...and we are so happy and exicted that all of that hard work last month was worth it. We are making a lot of progress!

Minimal and Zhoom are building "server side geometry." This is probably the trickiest part of building a massively multiplayer 3D game. They are coding the game engine to know what the 3D maps look like. Once it is done, monsters will know where walls are so they will walk around them, and hackers will not be able to "fly" or "teleport around." This is especially important for PvP.

Yergen and Korin are working on the "look and feel" of combat. We have our player character battling the Trolluck at various distances and different swing speeds. We have been spending a lot of time trying to add motion trails to weapon swings. Motion trails look AWESOME! (Most of what is in the current build of the game is really generic... but our goal is to make all of the animation crazy over the top)

Meanwhile, Llusion, Xero and the rest of the team have been creating different elementally themed areas. We plan on releasing a fly through of the various areas at DragonCon. OMG! DragonCon is in 2.5 weeks!!!!!

I sort of have a good feeling towards this game. Must be the mildly amusing Trollok example from the previous update, although at the same time, after seeing the Unity look for the monster, I still wonder WHY they are switching to Flash. Maybe they want an universal game environment for every game they do? Are they more adept with Flash? Who knows. Probably will find out when they can explain all the details, which apparently right now they can't.

I'm guessing Adobe has a deal with them going to use flash because adobe might have an announcement (like possibly adding 3D capability in Flash) that they want to use AQ3D as an example of. Which would explain the NDA.
