I just got Reach the day it came out with Recon and I'm ADDICTED to XBL. Dx Anyways, atleast it's more of a challenge rather all the other Halo games.

The reason I don't have it myself is because I was late in preordering the limited edition at gamestop so they're all "oh noes, you can't have". Had I known that I was missing an artbook, I would have skipped the "spezial armurz" from gamestop and picked up a limited edition at my local meijer. :C

Well, i got reach today and am nightfall, i stopped about mid level so i could go and play matchmaking and do some forging. Forge world is the most amazing thing ever, i have never seen a continuos map so big without something haveing to load while you travel. I even made my own base on the little spire rock thing across the ocean from paradiso. ANYWAYS, did anyone else get the recon helmet?

I got screwed out of the mulit-threat armor. Gamestop ran out of codes. Seriously, if you're going to try and get more sales by adding pre-order bonuses, actually have the pre-order bonuses when release day comes.
On a Forge-related note, the map aforementioned in a previous post is almost done, but I put it on pause to get working on a much larger map. I think I might be able to make it for Invasion. Do you ever have an idea where you just HAVE to put it into words or art? This would be one of those cases.
I imagined a castle-style Invasion game, and started out with "gates". Once I got the gate done, I moved onto the interior base, the defenders. After working on that some, I started working on the exterior base, the attackers.
The latter I'm having a little more difficulty on because of 1) the sheer scale of the map, 2) the elevation of the "gate" towers are WAY higher than the attacker terrain, and 3) the way I have it set up is in the Canyon, where there's the cliffs near the, well, rock slide (tunnel in the cliff leading out to the beach), the gates are on the cliffs, and the interior base is where the rock slid is, with the attacker base in the main canyon, which is really open, so I have to figure out a way to scale down the are whether through rocks or walls.

The main thing I fear for the first map is it is too cramped. Lots of interior, tight spaces, quite a bit of open space but on bridges.

That's actually pretty cool.
I made a forge map in the Lagoon using Coliseum walls as floor and rocks as cover. It's small but it's fun to play.

The waterfalls being Out-of-bounds really screwed up what I wanted to do originally, but this one kinda gets close to being similar. It's suspended in the air, with some contacts on the cliffs. Other than that, it's practically free floating. I don't even have to put in Kill Boundaries since it's so high up and and spots where you can get to pretty much screws you over any way you might be able to put it.
Plus, Dish + Antennae + Kill Ball = SWEET.
I've changed my mind, I'll post and overall pic for the first map today (later), so people can get an idea what I'm talking about. So expect some image links later.

Well Rage, tbh: its not really so much an artbook as it is a diary: its supposed to be the diary of Hasley, and its quite thick too boot (although there are a few sketches of interest, and it does come with top secret photos, I could scan those in)

Been reading Bungie's guide for making and Invasion gametype variant. As long as I get the map laid out right, I should be able to make a great Invasion game. It's a little complicated, so I'm going to have to read it when I wake up.
Right now, I'm just laying in my bed on here and surfing. Darn insomnia. I'd Forge but it's way too late, considering my parents are up and about, getting ready for work. They'd flip if they caught me up this late.
I'm REALLY going to need help play-testing my Invasion map when it's finished, but that won't be for at least another week or so.

Something cool I figured out and tried. Installing Reach to your Xbox makes it load faster.

In unrelated news, I'm working on yet another caged in map. I love the coliseum walls.
In this map, asymmetrical gametypes reign supreme. It takes place on the smallest of the islands (you know that starting hangar place? JUST to the left of that). I have it boxed in with said coliseum walls, and the island is riddled with buildings and teleporters (as it would be impossible to get to the top by walking).
The main gametype that I want to get onto this map would be king of the hill. That or oddball, with both objectives being at the very top of the hill.
Anyone want to help? At this point, i'm putting on the final aesthetic touches (i.e., the boxed in walls).
